How to Create a Workflow

Just like other features in Threadly, you can access the Workflows page by opening the app in Slack. From the Workflows homepage, you can easily create, manage, and view all your existing workflows.

To get started, click Create Workflow in the top right corner.

You’ll first be asked to choose a trigger. Note: Triggers can't be changed once selected, so make sure to pick the one that best fits your goal. Learn more about Workflow Triggers and Definitions.

After selecting a trigger, click Edit Trigger to configure the details. The fields you'll see depend on the type of trigger you choose — be sure to complete all required information so you can save your workflow.

Here’s a quick guide to the trigger options:

  • Schedule: Choose the day(s) and time your message should send. Messages go out shortly after the hour you select.

  • User Joins Channel: Pick the channels where this trigger should activate.

  • Channel Meets Criteria: Set up rules to automatically trigger workflows when you're added to new channels that match certain conditions. You can filter based on:

    • Channel Name

    • Channel Purpose

    • Channel Topic

For each, choose how you want to match:

    • Contains

    • Starts With

Then, enter the value you want to match against (e.g., marketing, proj-, or customer).

Example: Trigger a workflow when the channel name starts with proj-.
